IGH
In the past 5 years I’ve developed this benign skin condition and have decided to find a solution to cover these unsightly spots. Idiopathic guttate hypomelanosis (IGH) is a benign skin condition characterized by small, white, flat spots on sun-exposed areas of the skin, commonly seen in older adults. While its exact cause is unclear (hence “idiopathic”), it’s believed to be associated with aging and sun exposure. As for remedies, since IGH is harmless, treatment is usually for cosmetic reasons. Options include topical retinoids, cryotherapy, chemical peels, or laser therapy to improve skin appearance. However, these treatments may not completely eliminate the spots.
There’s no evidence suggesting a strong genetic component to IGH. However, as my mother aged I did notice the same spots on her legs, which leads me to believe there could be some genetics in play. Nevertheless, prevention involves sun protection, such as sunscreen, protective clothing, and avoiding prolonged sun exposure, which can help reduce the risk or severity of the condition.
There are are several products currently on the market that are highly advertised to cover up and give your skin and even tone, but do they really work?. Over the years when I noticed any blemishes on my legs I simply used my foundation but now I’m on a mission to find out what works best. Two products that stand out, Westmore and Luminess .
